Travel Guide to Lanzarote
Just off the coast of West Africa lies a small group of islands that are in fact European – as the Canaries have been owned by Spain ever since the 1400´s. And are today one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world.
An estimated 10 million tourists a year touch down here and the majority of them are headed for the largest islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. But little Lanzarote still accounts for about 15% of these guests. Many of them from the UK and Germany. As well as from mainland Spain too.
Once on the island they will find that Lanzarote is home to some very strange terrain, created by recent eruptions. As a result erosion has yet to erase the rough edges of natures work and the whole area looks like the surface of the moon. And is known to the locals the Montana’s del Fuego or Fire Mountains.
Car rental in Lanzarote is very affordable so it is cheap and easy to get out and tour this region, which is well worth the effort. As visiting Lanzarote without viewing the volcanoes is like going to Egypt and giving the pyramids a miss. Most Lanzarote hotels can arrange this service for guests and rental rates start at about €15 per day.
The volcanic region is located in the south of the island close to the resort of Playa Blanca, which was developed during the 1990´s. And which is home to a great selection of self catering accommodation. Playa Blanca holiday villas are especially popualr with guests from the UK who love the favourable microclimate of this resort during the winter months especially.
Other interesting sights close to Playa Blanca include the wonderful beaches at Papagayo and the Balcon at Femes. Which gives great views back down to the resort and across the Rubicon plains. The neighbouring island of Fuerteventura is also just a short boat ride away.
Playa Blanca isn’t the largest resort on the island though as this mantle falls to Puerto del Carmen. Located some ten minutes away from the airport at Arrecife. Puerto del Carmen was just a sleepy little fishing village until package tourism took off in the 1970s´ and still retains some of that original character intact to this day, especially in the old town harbour area. Puerto del Carmen offers a huge choice of accommodation and plenty for visitors to do and see too.

Burj Al Arab Hotel Review
As far as ratings go, the 7 Stars that the Burj Al Arab received is certainly deserved. For starters, the complex architecture of the building has drawn much admiration. The entire hotel is actually built on an island, specifically created to accommodate the structure. Burj AL Arab is considered to be the second tallest hotel in the world following the Rose Tower, which is located in Dubai.
The rooms are also huge, with the smallest one measuring 169 sq. meters and the largest one, 780 sq. meters. There are only 202 suites/bedrooms and spending the night here is certainly going to be an unforgettable experience.
